Final Day!

It's done -- and just in time for a birthday party!

Day 21

Now the changes are happening quickly. The frig is back in place.

Handles and knobs are on the cabinets.

The men came to install the countertop.

And left the sink on the floor while they worked.

Meanwhile, Al and John had started on the backsplash tile.

The countertop was in place in less than 2 hours!

Another day of work and everything will be almost done!

Day 20

There was more work that didn't show today.  New hinges on the kitchen cabinet doors.  Staining of woodwork.  The refrigerator being put back into place.  The most picture-worthy was the family room mantel and bookcases.

Day 19

I'm about to give up trying to figure out what day this is in the remodel.  It's just exciting to watch the changes.  Yesterday the bookcases took shape in the family room. We are going to put the TV on the left bookcase.  Al is wiring electricity and cable for that so we won't have wires hanging down everywhere.  It also means we can have a lighted garland on the mantel at Christmas :)  It's the little things in life...

Day 18

So, coming back after being gone 5 days, there were some changes but not a lot that show in pictures.  Before we left our stove and microwave were reinstalled so cooking isn't quite as difficult.  But, the refrigerator is still in the dining room.

The recessed lights are in in the kitchen as are the under the cabinet lights.  The plumbing is ready for the sink and the garbage disposal is wired.  More finished carpentry work was done too.  The kitchen work is basically stalled until the countertops arrived.  That may be another week...or more.  Grandad's puzzle boards and the old cookie board work as makeshift counters!  The hardwood floors are stilled covered though in case they drop anything.  Let's hope not.

They have also started on the floor to ceiling cabinets/bookshelves for either side of the fireplace in the family room. We're going to paint the walls this weekend and maybe, maybe move a little bit of furniture back into place. We'll see...

Day 14

The guy came from the countertop company to measure the kitchen.  He had a very cool tool that took images and recorded measurements directly into his computer.  It will take at least 2 weeks for the counters to come in.

In cabinetland, the corner glass cabinet went in and the moldings went up.  So happy with how everything looks!

Day 13

More progress on the cabinets:

The refrigerator will live in this spot.

Day 12

Well, it's starting to look like a kitchen again.  The cabinets were delivered first thing in the morning and this is what I saw when I came home.

The tall cabinet is not in place -- it actually belongs next to the refrigerator.  They just plunked it there probably because they were at the end of their work day.

Okay, so maybe the bay window with the big window sill won't turn out to be such a great idea!

Day 11

The floor is completely installed and the sliding glass door has been stained.  The floor is covered with cardboard because the cabinets will be delivered tomorrow!

Day 10

I guess I forgot to do a Day 9 post.  There wasn't much interesting to see on Day 9.  The most exciting thing for us was that Al surprised us by painting the ceiling for us.  He's such a nice guy!

Today Al started to install the hardwood floor.

And John finished the outside work on the bay window over the sink.

And the weekend was so nice, I just had to open up the porch!

Day 8

Nothing to take pictures of tonight.  Just more finishing on the walls and ceiling so we can paint the ceiling tomorrow.  Al did stain the wood that will be the sill of the bay window.  That's all folks!

Day 7

You're going to get tired of looking at nothing here.  Al has been preparing the walls and ceiling for paint.  Ceiling painting will be a Thursday night activity -- oh darn, I have to work :)

Yesterday Al did install a new sliding glass door.

And there are piles of flooring sitting in the family room waiting to be installed.

Day 6

Again, a day of progress but not so much for showing in pictures.  More wallboard went up, and joint compound in preparation for painting the ceiling later this week.

The soffet over the sliding glass door became more structured.

This is really the kitchen these days.  Last night we had our first burgers of the season.

And, yes, that's the view from the new bay window in the kitchen -- you have to lean out a bit to see this direction but it's a great view!

Day 5

Not much to show today. More wiring and wallboard went up. Next week things will start to take off.

Notice the difference in our heating ductwork in the picture above.  It is flexible and so will allow for a smaller soffet above the slider.

Day 4

There won't be much to take pictures of today either.  When I left, Al and John were wiring lights and discussing which switches would turn what on and off.  The garbage disposal switch will be mounted in the cabinet under the sink.

I did learn that the cabinets will be put in at the end of next week.  Before that comes sheetrock and flooring and...us painting the ceiling.  I think that will be an evening activity early next week.  Oh boy.  Send Motrin.

Day 3

Today wasn't as exciting to come home to.  They worked on lights and insulation. We have a couple of holes open to the elements. If we're lucky it won't rain or we won't get any critters visiting overnight.

The eyeball lights above the slider.  (There are lots more elsewhere in the kitchen.)

And a light in question.

By far the more interesting thing was the tree being taken out in the backyard!

Day 2

Today the old floors were removed and replaced with new sub flooring and the new bay window over the sink was installed. Can you say a place for plants?! Finally!

Day 1

Our kitchen remodel started today and already so much has happened! The entire kitchen has been gutted and the half wall is gone!

The kitchen we all know and love:

What the kitchen looks like now Al has been here:
